At this small town school, we build big-time pride by creating deep and lasting bonds within our community. Each month, we’ll shine a spotlight on a member of our GK community so we can get to know each other and share what makes us #GKProud.

Spotlight: Ruth Kleba

Where are you from? I was born in Chicago but grew up in Hampshire, Illinois.

Degree type: I graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and have a degree in Health Education, with an endorsement in Driver’s Education.

Your role at GK and which building you work in: I work at Genoa-Kingston High School and teach Driver’s Education.

Why did you want to come work with us at GK? I wanted to stay within the district because I have five boys, and it was important to me to stay close to home. I have substituted within the district for three years now. When they needed a classroom Driver’s Ed instructor, I was available and took this position.

What do you look forward to most in your new role here? I took a hiatus from teaching for 19 years, so I look forward to being back in the classroom and teaching. This has always been my passion.

What do you like to do when you’re not working? Any unique hobbies or interests? Since I have five boys, I am in constant motion—practices and games. When I am not doing that, I enjoy being outside mowing the yard (yeah I know — I have boys to do that and they do) but, I truly enjoy that. I also enjoy yoga, running and working out. Spending time with family and friends is also a must.

Tell us an interesting or little-known fact about yourself: Here are a few! I owned a ferret in college named Herschel, and I am also the youngest of six. Once, I went sky diving in college with friends (so much fun but I don’t think I would do it again!). I also coached girl’s varsity basketball at Winnebago for three years.
